Five a day
It is a well known fact that people who eat a lot of fruit and vegetables may have a lower risk of getting illnesses, such as heart disease and some cancers. Doctors insist that one must eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day. It can be fresh, tinned, frozen, cooked, juiced or dried.
How much is a portion?
One piece of medium-sized fruit - eg, an apple, peach, banana or orange
One slice of large fruit, such as melon, mango or pineapple
One handful of grapes or two handfuls of cherries or berry fruits
One tablespoon of dried fruit
A glass (roughly 100ml) of fruit or vegetable juice
A small tin (roughly 200g) of fruit

Every Hi5 Corporate fruit basket is packed with at least 10 different types of fruit. The staples, which are available all year round, are oranges, apples (fuji), bananas, and pears. The rest of the basket is dependent on season, preferences, and cost. |

Spring/Summer - A variety of delicious peaches, white peaches, nectarines, white nectarines, plums, pluots, apricots, mangoes and strawberries fill the basket. There is also an increase in berries and cut melons, as these hit their peak potential at this time of year.
Fall/Winter - Increased variety of local apples and pears, including Gala, Gold Delicious, Red Delicious, Granny, Pink Lady, and Pippin apples. The pear variety include Bosc, Danjou, Red Danjou, Comice, and Asian pears. Citrus varieties are more available as well including tangerines, grapefruits, blood oranges, and tangelos.
Specialties - This is the term we use at Hi5 for the last fruit that we add to put the finishing touch on the basket. Like all fruit variety the Specialties can vary depending on season and availability. Specialties include red grapes, green grapes, fresh cut cantaloupe, fresh cut pineapple, fresh cut honeydew, fresh cut watermelon, kiwis, baby kiwis, and more.
